“Wanderboots 2” by Partysofa
This month’s spotlight shines on Wanderboots 2, an ambitious adventure game inspired by the classic 2D Zelda titles and designed to push 001 Game Creator to its limits. The developer started it as a tech demo to experiment with rendering and gameplay but since then it has grown into a full-fledged project with a large world to explore, dungeons to conquer, and plenty of side activities to discover.
On the technical side, Wanderboots 2 is nothing short of impressive. It features a fully dynamic time-of-day lighting system that affects both exterior and interior locations, with windows and clocks reflecting real-time changes in the world. Players can expect softbody physics, particle-based rain effects, mirrors, depth-based water, ambient occlusion, and advanced sound systems… all running smoothly in 001! NPCs even follow schedules, making the world feel more alive.
Gameplay-wise, Wanderboots 2 is a mix of non-linear exploration, puzzle-solving, and dungeon crawling, with multiple ways to complete quests and uncover secrets. There are caves, cities, and towers to explore, minigames like woodchopping and of course the must-have fishing for all indies (anywhere you like!), and even a postal service. The game also includes plenty of clever environmental puzzles wrapped in a sleek, modern interface designed for both mouse/keyboard and gamepad players.
This is a game that truly shows off what 001 is capable of when pushed to its limits, and we can’t wait to see how it continues to evolve!

“Mecha Pirates” by evs
Our other feature for the showcase this month is Mecha Pirates, a grid-based tactics project that combines mechs, strategy, and some serious style. The dev constantly improves the game with visual polish updates, improvements to movement, and a somewhat recent addition of a brand-new accuracy system, adding an extra layer of tactical depth to the gameplay.
Though still early in development, Mecha Pirates is already shaping up to be a compelling tactical experience, and we’re excited to see where it goes next!

We’d also like to take the time and highlight a Steam Guide: “Creating a Simple RPG Game (How to use 001 #1)” by Jimmy.
This guide is a fantastic starting point for anyone looking to build their first RPG in 001 Game Creator. It’s beginner-friendly, well structured, and walks you through helpful basics like setting up core RPG systems, managing resources, and piecing together the game logic that makes everything run smoothly. Whether you’re completely new to 001 or just looking for a refresher, it’s a great read to get inspired and pick up some practical techniques.

Do you have any guides you’ve created, whether big or small? If so, we’d love to feature more of them! Submit your own Steam guide (tips, tutorials, recipes, etc.) so we can highlight your work in upcoming showcases. Help someone else get started, and get your name out there too.
